Re-Entry

It is estimated that approximately 97 percent of those individuals serving time in prisons will eventually be released back into the community. Without treatment for pre-existing mental health or substance use disorders and assistance in transitioning back into the community, these individuals are at risk of re-offending and recycling back into the criminal justice system.

Florida has a number of re-entry programs under way to assist people with mental illnesses and substance use disorders to make a successful transition.  For an overview of the Florida Department of Corrections' Office of Re-Entry efforts, download Increase Public Safety By Reducing Recidivism. To learn about some of the programs under way in several Florida communities to enhance transition of former offenders with mental illnesses or substance use disorders back into the community, see Success Stories on this website.
